The torque was =1579.8Nm

Explanation:

The torque is the rate of change of angular momentum

tau=(dL)/dt=(d(Iomega))/dt=I(domega)/dt

The moment of inertia of a solid disc is

I=1/2*mr^2

=1/2*5*8^2= 160 kgm^2

The rate of change of angular velocity is

(domega)/dt=(16-5)/7*2pi

=(22/7pi) rads^(-2)

So the torque is tau=160*(22/7pi) Nm=1579.8Nm
