In the variation $y=8x$
$color(red)(x and y$ are the variables and 8 itself is the constant, ( $c$ ).

$y=8x$ represents a direct variation between variables $color(red)( x and y$ , where $c$ = $8$

Looking at few examples:

As the values of $x$ increase, $y$ also increases and here $8$ is the constant , only $x$ and $y$ keep varying and hence are variables.
