Is there any difference between "to compare to" and "to compare with"?

None that I can see.
Explanation:
Let's test drive it:
If I take this head of lettuce and then compare to a carrot, I can see they are both vegetables
If I take this head of lettuce and then compare with a carrot, I can see they are both vegetables
Ok - so I'm using awkward English to try to highlight the "to" and "with" - and not seeing any difference. There is an ever-so-slight change in tone but even that is minimal.
So I'd say no difference.
