Explanation:
We can say that a molecule of carbon reacts with one of oxygen to give one of carbon dioxide. But also that 12 g of carbon react with 16 of oxygen to give 28 g of carbon dioxide. The reason is that a constant of proportionality exists, and this constant is the Avogadro number.
