Explanation:
Between 1845 and 1848, President Polk led his country in a conflict against Mexico. Though Mexican troops outnumbered American troops one to three, the Mexicans forces were completely overwhelmed by American military force.
The USA had a technological superiority against Mexico. The whole SouthWest was conquered from Mexico despite a 15 million dollars payment in return. One fourth of the USA size was therefore added in one conquest as Mexico lost a third of its territory.
The idea of "Manifest Destiny" was retaken by Abraham Lincoln and Woodrow Wilson. This notion therefore conveyed the idea that America had a special destiny, it was meant to spread Democracy throughout the world.
