Explanation:

Although we don't use this system in Australia any more, I still remember that in the "imperial system" of weights: 1 pound = 16 ounces.

Hence, #1/4# pounds #= 16/4# ounces

#= 4# ounces

[BTW: I also remember at school having to do the most tedious arithmetic calculations using this system! The metric system is so much simpler.]
