Vapour pressure is defined as the pressure exerted by the vapour molecules on the liquid surface with which it is in a state of equilibrium. This means that as long as the equilibrium exists the liquid molecules escape to the vapour phase and the vapour molecules enter the liquid phase.
High vapour pressure means that the liquid molecules escape easily into the vapour phase. This implies that the boiling point of the liquid is low and vice-versa
