Through the process of "Radiation".

Explanation:

Energy can be transferred in various ways:

1) Contact (solids); it is the case when you place a hot body in contact with a cold one. Energy passes from the hot to the cold;

2) Convection (liquids/fluids): when you heat, say, water. The hot portion of water starts to move around (due to the change in density) and transfers energy to the cold part;

3) Radiation (vacuum/gasses): in this case energy travels as radiation (an electromagnetic wave) carrying an energy proportional to its frequency #nu# (#Epropnu#).
This wave can travel through vacuum because it doesn't need a material medium to sustain its propagation.
