The equation is: #y = 3x + 2#

#y = mx + b#

The intercept, #b#, is the y value, when the x value is zero. The first point #(0,2)# gives you that information,

#y = mx + b#

#2 = m(0) + b#

#b = 2#.

This give us:

#y = mx + 2#

You can substitute the second point #(1,5)# for x and y and then solve for the slope, m:

#5 = m(1) + 2#

#m = 3#
