As $abs(x - 8) = 3$ , we can say that

$x-8 = 3 or x-8 = -3$

There will hence be two solutions for $x$

First solution:
$x-8 = 3$
$x = 3+8$ (Transposed -8 to the Right Hand Side)

Second solution
$x-8 = -3$
$x= -3 +8$ (Transposed -8 to the Right Hand Side)
