First divide both sides by 12

(cancel(12)^1|x/4+11|)/cancel(12)^1=60/12=5

(1) solve x/4+11=5rArrx/4=-6

multiply both sides by 4

cancel(4)^1xxx/cancel(4)^1=-6xx4rArrx=-24

and (2) solve x/4+11=-5" and proceed as before"

rArrx/4=-16rArrx=-64

Thus solutions are x = -24 and x = -64
