# How do you simplify -7y^0 and write it using only positive exponents?

Sep 5, 2016

You can't write it with positive exponents.

$\textcolor{b l u e}{- 7 {y}^{0}}$

$= - 7 \left({y}^{n - n}\right)$

$= - 7 \cancel{\frac{{y}^{n}}{{y}^{n}}}$

$= \textcolor{b l u e}{- 7}$

If you really wanted, you could write $- {7}^{1}$, but it's not necessary.
