Use the distributive property.

One way is to set this up as a square matrix

     x       +      3

x # ( x xx x) + (3 xx x)#

4 # (4 xx x) + ( 3 xx 4 )#

This gives # x^2 + 3 x + 4x + 12# Adding the like terms gives
