Explanation:

To see if there are equivalent reduce both to prime numbers. If the resulting fractions are the same the two fractions are equivalent.

$\frac{4}{2} = \frac{2}{1}$ $4/2 = 2/1$ $\frac{20}{6} = \frac{10}{3}$ $20/6 = 10/3$ so the two fractions are not equivalent.

Another way is to make the fractions equivalent by finding a common denominator. Multiply both sides by factors to reach a common denominator of 6.

$\frac{4 \times 3}{2 \times 3} = \frac{20 \times 1}{6 \times 1}$ $(4 xx 3)/( 2 xx 3)= (20 xx 1)/( 6 xx 1)$ This gives

$\frac{12}{6} = \frac{20}{6}$ $12/6 = 20/6$ The two fractions are not equal so the fractions are not equivalent.
