Assonance is repeating vowel sounds in a line of a poem or a song. It is used to add rhythm to the line.
Example: She sells sea shells by the deep green sea.

Explanation:

In the example above the trailing #ee# sound is repeated while the leading consonant sound changes. This is assonance.
