(5pi)/4 = 225^@. Use the special triangle 45^@-45^@-90^@ triangle in quadrant three. so the sides are -1,-1 and hypotenuse sqrt2 . tan ((5pi)/4)=o/a= (-1)/(-1)=1

Explanation:

You can use your calculator as well but to get exact value draw a triangle in quadrant three and then find the ratio for tangent opposite over adjacent to figure out the answer. Note that the negative signs mean the direction and not the length since we cannot have negative lengths.
