How do I interpret the graph of a linear function?

Linear functions have a degree of 1.

Examples:

2x+3y=9
y=4x+7
y=1/2x

If the linear function is in slope intercept form, y=mx+b, then m indicates the slope and b indicates the y-intercept.

If the linear function is in standard form, Ax+By=C, then the slope is found by the quotient, -A/B.

If you want to find the x-intercepts substitute in a value of 0 for the y variables.

If you want to find the y-intercepts substitute in a value of 0 for the x variables.
