How are the particles in a crystalline solid arranged?

This can't be answered in one way as it depends on the particles involved. They do pack in regular, symmetrical and repeating patterns. But, the way these patterns are described depends on those particles due to size and charges. The repeating pattern is called a unit cell and the points are occupied by either atoms, molecules or ions.
