Harold spend $7.65 on apples.

Explanation:

So if I'm reading this question right, both kinds of apples cost $0.17 cent a pound then you need to multiply it in two equations or just one question.

First Method:

Red Apples - 0.17*3=0.51
Green Apples - 0.17*42=7.14

Total Cost - 7.14+0.51=7.65

Second Method

You could of added the pounds of red apples with green apples as they cost the same amount of per pound so

42+3=45

So there is 45 pounds of apples together that cost the same price per pound which is 0.17 so we can multiply this by 45 like this:

0.17*45

Our final answer gives us 7.65 the same answer as the first method of doing it.
