Negative function - invert the signs. Inverse function - interchange the $x$ $x$ and $y$ $y$ variables.

The original function, $f (x) = \frac{x^{2}}{x + 2}$ $f(x) = x^2/(x+2)$ , when introduced a negative, simply results in inverting all the signs.

As a result, you get: $- f (x) = - \frac{x^{2}}{x + 2}$ $-f(x) = -(x^2)/(x+2)$ .

Please don't get confused with the inverse notation: ${f (x)}^{- 1}$ $f(x)^-1$ . Completely different than the negative function.
