By definition, the mean or average of a set of n data points is given by

Therefore in this particular case we get :

$- 11 = \frac{1}{5} (- 3 + x + 3 + 4 + 6)$ $-11=1/5(-3+x+3+4+6)$

$therefore x=-65$
