Explanation:
The sun itself does not necessarily emit alpha particles, but the same effect occurs when ionized Hydrogen and Helium is moved out of the Sun's corona, also known as solar wind.
This causes the Earth to be bombarded with those H+ and He++ particles making that stunning aurora.
