When a parallelogram is labelled the letters must go in order therefore in order to make AC 12 units AC must form the longest diagonal of the parallelogram.
Next we must assume that E is the intersection of the two diagonals.
In a parallelogram the diagonals bisect each other.
Since ED = 4.5units, BE must also equal 4.5 units making BD equal to 9 units.
