Why it's ZEROVALENT. For the #Br_2# molecule, each bromine atom has neither donated NOR accepted an electron. And thus we have zerovalent bromine.

Of course, in its compounds, bromine can assume oxidation states of #+VII# down to #-I#.

By the way there are few things in a lab as corrosive as bromine. You treat it with great respect.
