What are the most important safety rules in a laboratory?
1 Answer
Normal safety procedures apply................
Explanation:
The normal rules of laboratory safety apply. The absolute requirement is that the student, rather the experimentalist, wears safety spectacles, or regular optical spectacles. And why? Well if you get a drop of hot nitric acid in your eye that's you eye gone. A laboratory coat is usually worn to protect your clothing from acid or base burns; and sometimes when you are doing something benign, say running a NMR experiment, you will see chemists dispense with the lab coat. You will see no chemists working in a lab WITHOUT safety spex or regular optical spex: there must be a layer of protection between your mince pies, and the rest of the lab.
So what else? Maybe you should not work alone? This rule is often ignored depending on the inherent risk of your experiment.
