Dangling bonds refer to atoms fixed in location on the edge of a substance with a crystal formation. The atoms will have one or more incomplete electron bonds pointing outward from the surface.

Explanation:

A dangling bond is chemically similar to an ion in solution, except the dangling bond is held in position while the ion can move. Because of this a dangling bond refers to an immobilized free radical.

Dangling bonds are studied for their effects on magnetic properties of substances and semiconductor use of crystalline structures.
