The acidic character is defined by the ability to create #H^+#.
You may have heard of the term pH, which is a scale how acidic a solution is. This scale is purely based on the concentration of #H^+# ions in your solution.

So if you have a lot of #H^+# ions in a small volume, it will be very acidic (with a low pH). The pH scale is showed in the figure below.
