By writing a stoichiometric equation..............here..........

#HNO_3(aq) + KOH(aq) rarr KNO_3(aq) + H_2O(l)#

Explanation:

#HNO_3(aq) + KOH(aq) rarr KNO_3(aq) + H_2O(l)#

And this is a #1:1# stoichiometry.

And this falls under the more general umbrella:

#"Acid + Base "rarr" Salt + Water"#

Note that the potassium and nitrate ions are simply along for the ride. Bond formation occurs between #H^(+)# (i.e. a conceptual particle), and #HO^(-)#...........

And this underlies a fundamental, underlying principle of chemistry, #"stoichiometry"#,........i.e. #"garbage in equals garbage out"#.

See here for further treatment.
