Let the count of boys be b=32
Let the count of girls be g=40

In fractional format the ratio is:

("girls")/("total")->g/(g+b)=32/(32+40)=32/72

=(32-:2)/(72-:2) = (16-:2)/(36-:2)=(8-:2)/(18-:2)=4/9

In what I call clock form the ratio is

"girls : total " = " "4:9
