From what I remember, the Cornea (the main lens of the eye) produces a real inverted image.
Explanation:
The "optics" of our eye should be the combination of the main positive lens, the Cornea, plus a fine adjustment one the Crystalline (to adapt the focussing). There is also a kind of shutter, the Iris, that opens or close according to the amount of light.

The image is the composition of REAL rays so it is REAL (a virtual image is produced by projections of rays analyzed by our brain to form a VIRTUAL image). As a reference have a look at the image formation of a common positive (convex) lens.
