As Tyler explains in the video, that is just the mass of the potato chip. He said that you are to assume that the chip was weighted beforehand, i.e. before it was set on fire.

Its mass was recorded to be #"1.75 g"#. He then uses this mass to calculate the Calories per gram for the potato chip, i.e. how many Calories you'd get per gram of chips.
