Surface tension is the measure of elastic force within a substance. In order to demonstrate what this means, try floating a paper clip in a cup of water.
This would be the result.
Surface tension is dependant on their intermolecular forces. Liquids with strong intermolecular forces, such as hydrogen bond, shows greater surface tension in comparison to London Dispersion Forces.
