#N# is just a notation used for Avogadro's number, which represents the number of molecules present in 1 mole of a substance. In your case,

#N = 6.022 * 10^(23)"molecules" # #CO_2#

Since you have to calculate the mass of 2N molecules, which is equivalent to having 2 moles of #CO_2#, you'll get

#2cancel("moles"CO_2) * "44.01 g"/(1cancel("mole"CO_2)) = "88.02 g"#

which is equivalent to

#2cancel("N molecules"CO_2) * "44.01 g"/(cancel(N" molecules"CO_2)) = "88.02 g"#
