It's the semi permeable wall around the cell
Explanation:
The plasma membrane is like the wrapper around the cell (an actual cell wall is different thing). All the cell, the intercellular matrix is inside of it. It's made up of phospholipids and only lets certain things inside of the cell. It's fluid and a mosaic with lipid rafts, carbohydrates and stuck lipid anchors inside it.
Picture beads. Anything tiny can fall between the beads to get to the bottom but you can still stick larger things in it and they'll stay. This surrounds the cell keeping stuff in and keeping stuff out.
