#8.8 times 10^8# (Highly recommend that you read below!)

Explanation:

Standard form uses the fact that the decimal place value system is based on powers of #10# eg... #10^6 = 1000000# (six zeros)

So for yours you first count the zeros...

You have #7# so you would write it as #10^7#.

But we also need to know the digit in front. It is crucial that the first digit is between #1-10# because if it is not it is not written in standard form# Here's an example:

Write #50,000# in standard form.

#50,000# can be written as: #5 times 10,000#

#10,000# = #10 \times 10 \times 10 \times 10 = 10^4#

So: #50,000 = 5 \times 10^4#

Now we use this template of working out for your question:

#880000000# can be written as #8.8 times 100000000#
(we also need to multiply the second part by 10, which gives #10^8#)

#10000000 = 10 times 10 times 10 times 10 times 10 times 10 times 10 times 10 = 10^8#

So: #880000000 = 8.8 times 10^8#

Hope this helped you out!! :D
