Explanation:

Considering the pentagon to be regular. The pentgon can be divided into 5 equilateral triangles of equal areas each of whose side is a unit. Since the area of a triangle with a side a is #1/2sqrt(3)a^2# the area of 5 such triangles and hence pentagon would be #5/2sqrt(3)a^2#.
