Why does sliding filament theory not apply during rigor mortis?

Sliding filament theory states that separation of myosin head from the myosin binding site of actin filament requires ATP energies.
But in case of rigor mortis, which is a post mortem phenomenon,here no more ATP s are newly generated as a result ,these actin - myosin cross bridges can't be separarted,and muscles remain in prolonged contracted state.
They only break after long time when decomposition starts.
