Stratosphere and Thermosphere

It occurs in both the Stratosphere and Thermosphere for different reasons.
The Stratosphere is where the ozone layer is. Ozone absorbs UV energy from the sun. This causes and increase in temperature.
The Thermosphere is considered to be either outer space or adjacent to outer space. The air is so thin and this point the particles barely interact. Each individual particle gets a lot of energy from the sun and so the temperature technically increases with altitude. However, since the particles are so sparse you would never feel the heat in this layer.
