Explanation:
If a block of iron is placed into a bucket of water, a heterogeneous mixture is formed. There are two distinct parts of the mixture: iron and water. If the iron were to somehow dissolve-which it would not under standard conditions- water would be the solvent. The solute is what dissolves and the solvent is what does the dissolving. Solvents and solutes only exist in solutions, which only happens if the iron dissolves.
