In the VC source the soldiers talks about how they live on the extreme edge- minimal possessions, ready to run any time and expect an attack from anywhere.
The similarities are mainly about how danger can come from anywhere, but the similarities end when you get to "where the danger is coming from" or the motives of the groups.
