Congo basin rainforest is the second largest rainforest in the world after the one around Amazon. The Congo river basin is located in western equatorial part of central Africa.

  • On the east of the basin there is Rwenzori mountain ranges, and Mitumba mountains.
  • On the north there is Cameroon ranges.
  • Then there are Bie plateau and Katanga plateau towards south.

Congo river originates as a stream called Chambezi in Zambia and also receives substantial amount of water from another river called Lualaba. River Congo ends on west coast of Africa when it joins the Atlantic ocean.

The rainforest of Congo basin is biodiversity hot spot and divided in various ecoregions.
