- These proteins which entered the ER are synthesized by ribosomes in the rough ER (as protein synthesis is not done by the smooth ER.)
- Then proteins exit ER inside vesicles.
- These vesicles carrying proteins travel through the Golgi apparatus cisternae in the cis face. ((entrance face))
- Proteins enter the secretory vesicle.
- Proteins exit the Golgi apparatus from the trans face ((exit face)). Then, they exit the plasma membrane, thus the cell.
Importance:
The secretion pathway are the most effective method to 'produce' specialized proteins ready to complete their duties.
