When should you use I and when should I use me when listing people?

Should I use I or me after listing all of them, at the end or should I use I or me before listing all of them, like at the beginning?

Explanation:

If you are using a list of people including yourself as the subject of a sentence, then use "I" at the end of the list.

For example:

John, Jane and I went to the shops.

If you are using a list of people including yourself as the object of a sentence, then use "me" at the end of the list.

For example:

Sarah invited John, Jane and me.

The rule of thumb is to think about which of "I" or "me" you would use if you were the only person, then use the same in the list.

Compare the above two examples with:

I went to the shops.

Sarah invited me.

The pronoun "I" functions as the subjective form.
The pronoun "me" functions as the objective form.

Explanation:

Use "I" for a compound subject in a sentence.
Use "me" for a compound object in a sentence.

It is considered good manners to use the first person pronouns (I or me) last in a group when one or more other people form a compound subject or a compound object in a sentence.
