Since #k=y/x#, your solution is #k=7/4# or #k=1.75#

Explanation:

Arrange your equation first:

#y=ktimesx#

Then
#k=y/x#

Since you know x and y

#k=0.7/0.4#

or

#k=7/4#

or

#k=1times3/4#

or

#k=1.75#

This is your answer #k=1.75#

k = 1.75

Explanation:

Write down what you know
#y =0.7#
#x = 0.4#
# y= kx#

Plug your values into the equation.

#0.7 = k (0.4)#

You want to get the variable to be isolated (aka naked and alone.) So you have to strip it of all the values. Just like when you get undressed, you do opposite. Instead of putting on your socks, you take them off, instead of buttoning you unbutton. So even thought it says to multiply k by 0.4 we are going to do the opposite, by dividing 0.4 instead.

And whatever you do to one side you have to do to the other to keep it equal. So the equation now looks like this

#0.7/0.4 = frac( k (0.4))(0.4) #

Finally just solve. Remember the 0.4 on the right hand side cancel out and don't stop until you get k naked.
#0.7/0.4 = k -> 1. 75 = k#
