Here, DNA is acidic due to the presence of Phosphoric acid (H_3PO_4 ) which loses one hydrogen as a proton ( H^+ ) because it was dissolved in a basic environment inside the nucleus.

As we know an acid will only dissolve in a base by losing a proton (H^+).
