Yes, loudness is measured in decibels and the fact that the threshold for pain is 120 decibels is also true. When you exceed that limit your ears start paining and you may may become deaf.

Explanation:

When the limit of the hearing extremes is reached ,the sound becomes unbearable and you start to feel pain in the ears as your ear drum starts to vibrate faster and faster.This vibration of the ossicles also set the membrane in our ear into movement. Hence after hearing such loud sounds you may become dizzy , or may even become deaf if exposed to even louder sounds .
