the part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formula and equations.

Explanation:

Algebra is most commonly used with missing number and variables. It uses equations that need to be solved in order to find a missing length, value, weight, etc.

Example:

If 10=2x-2, what is the value for x?

To solve this you must first add the 2 to both sides.

10color(red)(+2)=2x-2color(red)(+2)

12=2x

The you divide the both sides by 2

12/color(red)(2)=(2x)/color(red)(2)

So x=6

Hope this helps a bit!
