to do this we start by subtracting #6# from both sides of the equation. (in other words, do #6-6# and #18-6#)

we now get #-2x=12#

Or final step is to divide both sides of the equation by -2 (we do this so #x# is by itself on one side of the equals sign, but whatever we do to one side, we must do to the other, that is why we also divide #12# by #-2# )

With this, we get #x=-6# which is our answer.
