Why does the Moon appear to take on a colored hue during an eclipse?

During total lunar eclipse moon is with in shadow of earth. It does not get direct sun light.

Explanation:

But refracted Sun light through earth's atmosphere only red light reaches the moon as red has the highest wavelength. So moon appear as coppery red.
