What causes blood capillaries to burst?

The most common reason that blood capillaries to burst is high blood pressure. Others include injury, allergies, medications, radiation or septicemia.

Explanation:

The high BP can be short term such as in lifting a heavy object or long term. Long term would occur when blood vessels have plaque in them (atherosclerosis). Long term high BP requires medication to lower it.

The short term bleeding can have several tiny pinpoint red dots (called petechiae) or can collect under the tissue in larger flat areas (called purpura), or in a very large bruised area (called an ecchymosis).
